My Jack Russell, Jackie, fell violently ill recently. He had uncontrollable nausea, shaking and in general was scared. I have never seen this dog show an ounce of fear or cry in pain in the 12 years he has been my dog. It was obvious there was something very wrong with him.
The staff at the Animal Medical Hospital in Hempstead quickly diagnosed his problem as pancreatitis brought on by an intestinal blockage and his age. Surgery removed the blockage and medication relieved the pain. One week after the surgery Jackie was running around with the energy of a puppy again. My dog was reborn.
I will be forever grateful of the care and attention he received at the Animal Medical Hospital. I was kept well informed and Jackie was well cared for. I was scared it was the end for Jackie, but Doug and his staff saved my dogs life.

Dr. Wyler is one of the most professional people I have had the honor of meeting. I have been taking my Shepherd/Lab Shadow to him for the last 8 years and have received nothing less than courtesy, friendliness, and a willingness to answere any questions I might have. Dr. Wyler is so professional in fact that his major concern is treating your animal to keep them in the best of health. He does not try to persuade you to do testing on your animal simply because of the money factor.
Staff from the front desk and all in between to the end is the place you want to bring your animial for medical treatment as you will experience the same professionality and courtesy I have. Pet's Name

Dr. Valen examined Sam yesterday, July 7, and displayed her typical compassion and consideration for us all, an attitude my family has come to expect and deeply appreciate from every member of the staff at Whitestone Veterinary Care. I've been bringing my three and a half year old Yorki-Poo, Yodle, to Whitestone Veterinary Care for about two and a half years now. After several experiences with unprofessional, unkind, and uncaring vets, it was such a relief and comfort to find Dr. Wyler's office. All of the Veterinarians are extremely professional and knowledgeable, taking the time to always answer any questions/concerns regarding medical procedures. Dr. Wyler and his staff also obviously care very much about each and every patient. The front desk staff and veterinary assistants are also very helpful and kind. Yodle was unfortunately a very sick puppy, but after being under the watchful eye of Dr. Wyler and his team, so no longer suffers from many of the medical conditions she was afflicted with when she was younger. I trust them to keep her healthy and happy, at a fair price, and with the same amount of love I would give her myself! I highly recommend!!! Pet's Name

We just recently adopted Stanley three weeks ago from Dr. Wyler. We have been without a cat for over 12 years and felt it was about time for one. We also felt our 11 yr. old black lab was settled enough to let a cat into our home. Well.. Stanley is adjusting very nicely to our home, although he is a little "quirky." Buddy and he are becoming more and more friendly each day. SO.. we are very thrilled and glad we could adopt Stanley and make him a part of our family! Pet's Name

I am so sorry that I haven't written this review sooner. My bunny Gloria (male) had a strange cut on his neck and I had no idea where it could have come from. I brought him to Dr. Starkey who took a sample to rule out fungus and sent us home with medicated wipes. In the meantime, Gloria was acting lathargic and not eating much. I brought her back in and Dr. Starkey was concerned about his body temperature and a possible blockage moreso than the cut. He immediately ordered his vet tech to set up a heating table to bring Gloria's temperature back to normal and told me that he would have to pump his stomach and/or operate. I was beside myself, but knowing Dr. Starkey's impeccable knowledge base and his love for animals, I had no reservations. I have full faith in his abilities as a veterinarian. Gloria had undergone the anestesia and the procedure was done. It was a huge success! Gloria, after having to feed him critical care food with an eye dropper is eating on his own. His cut has healed and the fur is growing back. Dr. Starkey works very well in emergency situations, as Gloria may not be here had the doctor not acted promptly. The town of Whitestone is BLESSED to have a top of the line veterinarian such as Dr. Starkey so conveniently located. Thank you, Dr. Starkey. You are the cream of the crop! Pet's Name

We have been coming to the Animal Medical Center for about 25 years starting with our late cats Trixie and Norton, followed by our rabbit, Raphael, and now with our cats, Bosco and Charlotte. We have since moved to the North shore but we still travel to the Animal Medical Center for our vet care. We are comfortable and it is like family and over the years in addition to check ups and vaccinations have received dental cleanings and treatments for various ailments. The service is always professional and the diagnostic ability never lacks. We have had the happy experience of adopting one of our cats from the practice and we have also had the sad experience of having to euthanize our former two cats of 16 and 17 years old.
Dr Wyler and his associates were compassionate, understanding and helpful in guiding us through the process. Owning pets brings tremendous joy and fulfillment and having a vet who treats our animals as family members, which they are, is truly a rare find. Thank you. Pet's Name

My cat, Boots, had to have his tooth extracted and I was nervous about him going under anesthesia. Dr. Starkey explained the procedure to me and assured me he would take good care of Boots. Everything went GREAT and Dr. Starkey and his staff were very kind and personable. They also went above and beyond by calling me the next day to ensure that Boots was okay. I adopted my cat, Revis from the Animal Medical Hospital. I paid a reasonable fee for him which included his feline aids/leukemia testing, vaccinations, and neutering. Revis has been a pleasure as our newest family member. Revis continues to go to the Animal Medical Hospital for his routine care even though we don't live particularly close. He really likes Dr. Valen and Dr. Wyler. They are always very thorough with their examinations and understanding that he isn't the biggest fan on needles :) Revis especially loves the girls at the front desk because they give him kitty treats when he visits!!! I recently adopted a rabbit. I live in Queens NY and was looking for a vet close by ââ¬â but was willing to travel if it meant finding her great care. I was in luck - I found Dr. Starkey at Whitestone Vet Care. Although he is a board certified avian specialist, his knowledge of rabbits and their behavior is unmatched! When I first brought her in for an exam, I had a ton of questions being that I never owned a rabbit before. Dr. Starkey answered every one of them, and then some. He gave me advice on feeding her, her cage at home, behavior issues, - even medical conditions rabbits are prone to. He informed me how important it was to have her spayed to significantly reduce the chance of cancer. I had no idea that was even an issue with rabbits! His gentle care of her was impeccable! The girls at the desk, Laura, Nichelle and Sharon are all so helpful when I call with silly questions. They always take the time to listen and give me the best advice for the situation. The techs are wonderful as well ââ¬â Rachel and Dayhanna always handle my bunny with such care and put both her and me at ease. I canââ¬â¢t tell you how happy I am that I found this place!! I'm a fairly new customer, but I'm also a fairly new pet owner. In the past six months, I've brought my young cat to the Whitestone Clinic twice out of sheer paranoia and inexperience. Each time, he turned out to be fine, but the doctors never made me feel dumb for bringing him in to get checked out. They are great at listening to anything and everything I have to say, even if it's not totally pertinent to what might be the issue. They're also great at recommending a good nutrition plan and genuinely seem to care about my pet as much as I do. Just wanted to drop you a brief note to let you know Boris is significantly better. I picked up the medication last Wednesday evening and gave him his first dose that night. By Thursday AM, he was showing some improvement, and by Friday evening he was eating on his own.
Thanks to Drs Starkey and Valen, and to Sharon at reception for your understanding and patience with a slightly hysterial pet âparentâ, and for the immediate and effective care Boris received. Itâs comforting to know we have a caring and effective Vet close to home. And, to top it off, approx 2 weeks after this, our other cat, Natasha, also 17 1/2 years old stopped eating due to an infected tooth!! Dr Starkey explained all the options and dangers inherent in working on a cat that old, and then calmly and efficiently did all the preliminary procedures as well as the tooth
extraction and cleaning.I don't know what I would have done without Dr Starkey and staff. My grateful thanks!!!

I called on Tues afternoon 9/13/09 asking if you had advice where I could take a stray cant with a broken leg I had found in the street but could not adopt as my own. The yound lady I spoke with gave me the phone @ of NYC Animal Care and Control and a few hours later I was able to bring the kitten to the Brooklyn SHelter...since the kitten had bitten me I received a call Friday from the Dept of Health informing me the kitten tested negative for rabies. Without your help I wouldn't have known where to go...other vets I called had no suggestions and North Shore Animal Leauge offered nothing more than euthanasia since I am not in a position to take financial responsibility for the cat. Although I figure the cat was probably euthanized anyway given the negative rabies diagnosis, you help me help her meet her end humanely rather than painfully in the street, and I don't need to worry about rabies. I wish that I did not have to write this, but unfortunately I have to.
Last Wednesday my baby girl dog Charlemagne was poisoned and almost died.
The staff consisting of Nichelle, Elizabeth, and Sophia were extremely- for lack of a better words, understanding, sympathetic, knowledgeable, patient... and so on.
Dr. Jackie Chaffer also worked in conjunction with the emergency hospital to coordinate care for Charlemagne while she was inpatient until her discharge.
I could not have done it without their kind and loving help.
If looking for a vet either new or switching to a new one the practice of Whitestone Animal Hospital is IT!!! Look no further wherever you are you have found the place for your companion and friend to have the perfect care in any and all situations.
Just a note-yesterday I was at the office and someone brought in a dog they had found. Again, Nichelle, Sophia and Irma jumped into action-scanned the dog to check for a microchip, took a picture of the dog and began to set up a poster to help find the owner.
Time and time again the staff at Whitestone Vet proves their love for animals in all situations. I thank GOD that the team is my choice for terrific animal care. Please make it yours !!! Pet's Name
